Overview
The Lagunas de Palos y las Madres covers 690ha and is part of another larger protected area called the Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel. The area consists of four lagoons: Las Madres, La Jara, La Mujer and Palos.
Animals/Birds
The area is home to many waterfowl including the rare white-headed duck. Water rail, little bittern and purple heron use the area for breeding. Chameleons and tortoises are found here as well as otters and mongoose.
Plants
There are a variety of plants including: maritime and stone pine, reeds, dwarf fan palms and reedmace.
